Healthy Food - Barcode Scanner ("the app") lets you scan a product's barcode to look up basic product information and see a simple health score. The score itself is calculated by the app's own logic — Open Food Facts is only used as a data source for product details. This page explains what data is and isn't collected when you use it.
The app itself does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on any server we operate — it has no backend and no user accounts. The app does not contain any analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
The app uses your device's camera solely to detect and read product barcodes. Camera images are processed on-device to find a barcode and are never recorded, saved, or transmitted anywhere. Microphone access is explicitly disabled and is never requested.
When you scan a barcode, the app sends that barcode number to the Open Food Facts public API to fetch basic product details (name, brand, image, ingredients, nutrition). No personal information is sent with this request. That lookup is governed by Open Food Facts' own privacy policy: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy.
The health score you see for a product is not provided by Open Food Facts or any third party — it's computed by logic built into the app itself, based on the product's nutrients, additives, alcohol content, and palm oil content. This calculation happens on your device.
Each product you scan — its barcode, name, brand, image, computed health score, and the date scanned — is saved locally on your device in a local database so your history is available offline. This history never leaves your device, is never sent to us or anyone else, and is permanently deleted if you uninstall the app or clear it from within the app.
The app offers an optional paid subscription to unlock additional scans, handled through RevenueCat and the app store you downloaded the app from (Apple App Store or Google Play). RevenueCat and the app store process information necessary to manage your purchase and subscription status (such as a device/purchase identifier and transaction details) under their own privacy policies:
We do not receive your payment details (such as card numbers) — these are handled entirely by Apple or Google.
This app does not display any third-party advertising.
This app is intended for a general audience and is not directed specifically at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us so we can address it.
Because the app does not transmit personal data to any server we control, there is no app-managed remote storage of your information to secure. Data stored locally on your device is protected by your device's own operating system security.
